Aquaponics
Fish and vegetables raised together in one balanced water system.
Aquaponics joins aquaculture with hydroponics. Fish waste feeds the plants, and the plants clean the water for the fish. The result is two harvests from one system, using far less water, land and labour than conventional farming.
Tilapia and barramundi are the most common choices because they handle varied conditions and grow fast. Leafy greens, herbs and small vegetables thrive in simple systems, while tomatoes, cucumbers and peppers need larger, well-stocked setups.
